FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Speed Sport Set to Producuce “Boston” Louie Seymour Memorial for Television
First televised event in NEMA’s 61-year history will air August 14, 2014 on MAVTV

The “Boston” Louie Memorial midget race will be televised on MAVTV later this summer. The annual midget classic sanctioned by the Northeastern Midget Ass’n and held at Seekonk (Mass.) Speedway will be taped and produced by SPEED SPORT Productions.

First run in 1997, the July 23 “Boston” Louie Memorial pays tribute to legendary car owner Louie Seymour. The event is presented by the Seymour family with the length of the event 29 laps of the quarter-mile asphalt oval in honor of Seymour’s popular No. 29 race cars. Louie Seymour’s son, Bobby, has been instrumental in bringing the “Boston” Louie Memorial presented by Acquia Software to television. He knows the importance of television to racers.

“From 1971 to 1980, ABC’s Wide World of Sports broadcast USAC sprint cars from Terre Haute and our car won the first year, the second year and the last year,” Seymour said. “I never thought we’d get a TV deal. But I knew a lot of people in the Midwest were behind it because of his notoriety. You’ve got to work it all the time and that’s what we do now. There’s a lot of history there but there are fans who weren’t even born when my father was racing. That’s when I show them the Wide World of Sports clip.”

Nicknamed “the man who traveled a million miles,” “Boston’’ Louie visited victory lanes throughout the country with such distinguished drivers as Ken Schrader, Dave Blaney, Rich Vogler, Doug Wolfgang, Sammy Swindell, Greg Weld, Sheldon Kinser, Bruce Walkup, George Snider, Eddie Leavitt and Joe Saldana.

The “Boston” Louie Memorial presented by Acquia Software is the first televised event in NEMA’s 61-year history.  SPEED SPORT Productions led by award-winning producer Jim Roller, will produce the event for airing on its “SPEED SPORT” series on MAVTV. The on-air team will be anchored by veteran broadcaster Ralph Sheheen along with Erin Evernham who used to race for the Seymour family and former NEMA racer Derek Pernesiglio in the pits.

Acquia Software, of Burlington, Mass., has signed on as presenting sponsor of the event. The “Boston” Louie Memorial presented by Acquia Software is tentatively scheduled to air Aug. 14 on MAVTV.
